After Blossfeldt, 2022

ANA VALQUARESMA

400 x 600 x 80 mm (each); plaster and mdf.

The five reliefs are the result of a volumetric restitution exercise based on photographs by Karl Blossfeldt (1865 – 1932).

Through his extensive botanical documentation, characterized by macro plans of isolated plants, the author is recognized as a precursor in the encounter between art and nature. Initially taken for didatic purposes, the records became famous for their clear aesthetic qualities.

Based on the attention to detail and the abstraction to which the plant forms were subjected, bas-reliefs were created. Through techniques attributed to sculpture, the reliefs aim to explore and encapsulate the sensitivity evident in the photographs. This process results in monochromatic pieces, where volumes and textures stand out.
